Amazon Web Services (AWS) is having issues, and that means everything on the internet is having issues. AWS says it’s “identified the issue as high error rates with S3 in US-EAST-1, which is also impacting applications and services dependent on S3.”
S3 is AWS’s scalable cloud storage service.
Currently affected sites include Slack, Trello, Quora, Business Insider, Coursera, and Time Inc. Some users report being unable to control Internet of Things devices such as lightbulbs because IFTTT is also down.
If you want to check on status, you’ll have to do so directly from Amazon because Isitdownrightnow is…down right now, because it too uses ASW S3.
Update (2:35pm PST): The AWS status page says “As of 1:49 PM PST, we are fully recovered for operations for adding new objects in S3, which was our last operation showing a high error rate. The Amazon S3 service is operating normally.”
Most of the affected sites appear to be back online. Phew.
